This month, we’re exploring the theme of connection—because it's the foundation of relationship.
Theme
Week 1
Focus: What connection looks like
What does connection look like in your family? Between you and your partner? Between you and your child?
Connection doesn't always mean being physically close, your child being cooperative, or generally being happy. But, it might also sometimes be those things!

Weekly Challenge:

We are going to start super gently this back-to-school month and first just spend the week looking for the small ways in which you and your child connect in the day-to-day.

Important note: Your version of connection might be different from your child's! See if you can discover similarities and differences this week in your connection styles.
Week 2
Focus: Connection Before Correction

If you've been hanging around me for any length of time, you've heard me talk about "connection before correction". It's something I believe in with my whole self! Now, what that doesn't mean, is that when your kid is being aggressive or doing something that is straight up not okay, that you need to give them a big hug before telling them "stop". (Omg, can you imagine if I was saying that?!)

The heart of "connection before correction" is to see past the behavior and into the child, and into yourself, before you react.

Very often, when we take that pause, we will discover the underlying need that is manifesting itself in undesired behaviors. And that's what brings us to this week's challenge!

Weekly Challenge:

This week, use all the data you collected regarding connection last week to discover what your child's underlying needs might be when they display behaviors requiring corrections.

See if you can insert a pause and look past the behavior, and past your own reaction, and get to a place of connection.

And please report back and tell us everything!
